What Makes a Good Professional Organizer?

I came across a great article about Professional Organizers at Workingworld.com. It describes some of the different types of organizing that Professional Organizers do, the need for Professional Organizers, how to get started as a Professional Organizer, and what makes a good Professional Organizer.

That last point is explained very well. Here is an excerpt:

So, what makes a good organizer? What, besides the given, superior organization ability, is required? "Interpersonal skills are critical," advises KJ. "There is no one right way to organize. We are discovering that different approaches work for different people. You need to find a system that?s right for a particular client, based on their personality."

"People who value organizing, not just those who know how to do it, but appreciate the value of it, that is key" adds Judy. "A professional organizer understands that productivity feels good. No, they are not anal retentive; they don?t have to fill every minute with tasks. It is accomplishing the little things and a couple of the big items on your To Do list."

"The good ones are intuitive, they care about clients," says Mary. "We meet all sorts of people, have to listen, hear what they are having problems with. What are their frustrations? And, of course, there?s the integrity issue. After all, you are often handling sensitive, personal documents.
